You already know the world is talking to AI about its mental health. Most of those tools weren't built for it. Anchr Guide is - and it works in two distinct, evidence-based modes designed to meet you exactly where you are.
Two modes. Six therapeutic frameworks. One conversation that actually understands what kind of support you need.
This isn't a hypothetical we're trying to convince you of - you've probably done it yourself, or know someone who has. The infrastructure for real mental health support reaches a fraction of the people who need it. So people are reaching for whatever they can.
And so people are doing the obvious thing. They're talking to ChatGPT at 2am. They're typing their rumination into Replika. They're confiding in tools that were built to write code, draft emails, role-play characters - not to hold space for someone in real distress.
A Sentio University study (2024) found nearly half of people using LLMs have used them for mental health support. Most do so because real care is too slow, too expensive, or too far away.Generic chatbots will sympathise with you. They'll generate calming words. They'll pull plausible-sounding wellness advice off the internet. None of that is therapy, and none of it is built around the structures that decades of clinical research have shown actually help people change.
You can switch between these modes mid-conversation. Each is designed for a different kind of moment. Together they cover almost every reason you'd want to reach for a thoughtful, structured AI conversation about what's going on with you.
"I don't know where to start - help me work out what I actually need."
An unhurried, deeply attentive intake conversation that maps your situation across six clinical dimensions and assembles a personalised pathway of 2-4 self-care modules drawn from the modality that genuinely fits.
See how it works"I just need to think this out loud with someone."
A skilled, integrative conversation that draws live from a library of CBT, DBT, ACT, Psychodynamic and IPT techniques - matching the right tool to the right moment, without the jargon or the lecture.
See how it worksMost apps drop you into a generic onboarding quiz, slap a label on you, and serve up a feed. Explore & Discover does the opposite. It treats the first conversation like a clinical intake conducted with care - it asks one thoughtful question at a time, builds a real picture of what you're carrying, and only then suggests anything.
The conversation never rushes to a recommendation. It moves through four deliberate phases, each one earning the right to the next. Skipping phases is what makes generic AI mental health conversations feel hollow - they leap to advice before they've understood you. Anchr Guide refuses to do that.
A warm, low-pressure invitation to talk. No assessments, no labels. The goal is to make it safe to start anywhere - and to signal that this conversation is not in a hurry.
Open questions, one at a time. The Guide is listening across multiple dimensions simultaneously - emotional, relational, cognitive, contextual - and gently probing where the picture is thin.
The Guide reflects back what it has heard - your situation in your own words, summarised. You confirm, correct, or add. Nothing gets recommended until it has confirmed it understood you.
A pathway of 2-4 modules drawn from the framework that best fits how you relate to your suffering - sequenced with prerequisites respected, like a structured program would.
You can pause, go back, change direction, or switch into Talk it Through at any point. The Guide carries everything you've shared with it, no matter where the conversation goes.
Underneath that conversational flow sits the model the Guide is actually using to listen. Most chatbots only hear content - the words you said. Anchr Guide hears across six clinical dimensions at once, the way a skilled integrative therapist might. The dimension that turns out to be loudest in your story is the dimension that decides which framework you'll be guided into.
The Guide is mapping where in your experience the centre of gravity sits - because that decides which therapeutic approach is most likely to actually help, not just which is most familiar.
Are repetitive thoughts, self-criticism, or cognitive patterns a central part of your struggle? (→ often CBT-leaning)
Are emotions overwhelming, intense, or difficult to regulate? (→ often DBT-leaning)
Have you lost touch with your values, sense of purpose, or direction? (→ often ACT-leaning)
Is a specific relationship, life transition, or sense of isolation at the heart of what you're facing? (→ often IPT-leaning)
Do you notice repeating dynamics - in relationships, at work, or within yourself - that feel rooted in something older? (→ often Psychodynamic-leaning)
Is there a specific modern stressor - financial pressure, AI anxiety, world events - that's driving your distress? (→ often general / cross-modality)
Once the Guide has formed a picture, it doesn't pick a module the way a content algorithm picks a video. It assembles a pathway - 2 to 4 modules sequenced together - that addresses your specific situation through the right modality, in the right order. A few principles govern how that selection actually happens:
Modality fit, not modality default. The Guide is integrative across all five clinical frameworks plus a general stream. It chooses the modality that fits how you relate to your pain - not the one it always picks. Someone whose primary struggle is racing thoughts gets routed differently from someone whose primary struggle is feeling cut off from what matters. Same app, different pathway, on purpose.
Prerequisite chains are enforced. Every module in Anchr knows what must come before it. You'll never land on "Defusion: Self-as-Context" without the Guide having first built up the foundational mindfulness work that makes that lesson land. The way a structured clinical program would sequence your learning is the way Anchr does too - automatically.
Contraindications are respected. The Guide knows where techniques don't belong. It won't recommend extended exposure work to someone in acute trauma activation. It won't drop a precontemplative reader into a "make a plan" module. It won't suggest sleep-restriction protocols to someone who described symptoms suggesting bipolar fluctuation - it points to professional care instead.
What you've already done counts. The Guide reads your existing engagement with Anchr - mood check-ins, modules you've completed or started, recent reflection patterns - so it never re-recommends finished work and can suggest the natural next step in your own learning journey.
Six therapeutic streams. The Guide picks - and combines - whichever genuinely fit your story.
Sometimes you don't need a recommendation. You need to talk something out loud with someone who knows how to actually listen. Talk it Through is exactly that conversation - except the "someone" has access to a deep, evidence-based technique library and the clinical training to know which technique fits which moment.
Talk it Through is phase-aware. Just like Explore & Discover, it doesn't dump techniques on you in the first message. It moves through its own four-phase therapeutic arc - and the techniques it draws on shift depending on which phase you're in.
Settling in. The Guide notices what you're bringing today - is this a sticky thought, a hard week, a 2am realisation, a conversation you can't have with anyone else? Different opening, different work.
The middle of the work. The Guide is reflecting, naming what it hears, gently testing assumptions, and weaving in techniques from your modules and beyond - without announcing them.
When the surface has been worked, the Guide goes one layer down - patterns under the story, the want underneath the complaint, the value the pain points toward. Earned, not forced.
Pulling threads together. What you'd like to take away. Which lesson from your pathway might be worth re-reading. What you might do next time you feel that thing again.
You can stay in any phase as long as you want. The Guide follows your lead - it doesn't push you forward before you're ready, and it doesn't pretend the conversation is over when you still have more to say.
The library Talk it Through is drawing from is the same one that powers Anchr's modules - rigorously evidence-based and developed over decades of clinical research. The Guide weaves techniques into the conversation the way a skilled integrative therapist might: without announcing labels, without lecturing you on the framework, without making the moment feel like homework.
The Guide carries a compressed catalogue of the techniques it can use, each one paired with a clinical reference and a voice-calibrating example. The breakdown:
Thought records, behavioural activation, schema work, exposure
Mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, DEAR MAN
Defusion, values clarification, acceptance, committed action
Pattern work, transference, attachment, inner child
Communication analysis, role disputes, grief & transitions
Modern stressors - financial, geopolitical, AI anxiety
Selection is gated by stage-of-change, your in-app context (mood patterns, completed modules, what's previously resonated) and the phase of the conversation - never random, never announced.
Below is just a sample of what's in the technique library, by framework. The Guide doesn't decide on a single one for the whole session - it pulls from across all five depending on what you bring to the conversation.
For when a specific thought is gripping. The Guide can walk you through identifying the distortion, examining the evidence, and generating a balanced alternative - in normal language, not jargon.
For when emotion has escalated and you need to come down before you can think. The Guide pivots to crisis-survival skills first, processing second.
For when a thought has hooked you. The Guide helps you step back from "I am useless" to "I'm having the thought that I'm useless" - and back to what you actually want your life to look like.
For when something keeps repeating - the same fights, the same career trap, the same shame loop. The Guide listens for the older pattern under the present moment.
For when the trouble is between you and someone else. The Guide helps you separate position from underlying need, model the conversation, and find an opening that protects the relationship.
For when the inner critic has the floor. The Guide helps you notice the voice, name what it's protecting, and offer yourself the kind of response you'd give a friend in the same place.
How is the right technique chosen? The Guide considers three things in real time: your phase (opening vs deepening), the function of what you're bringing (a thought, an emotion spike, a relational dynamic, a values disconnect), and your active context - the modules in your current pathway, what you've recently been working on, the techniques that have already resonated with you in past chats. It then weaves the most fitting technique into the next message, conversationally. If something doesn't land, it pivots.
It's also one of the best ways to practise what you're learning in your modules. Some concepts - say, the difference between a thought you're fused with versus one you're defused from - can be tricky to fully grasp from reading alone. Talking through them, in the moment a real thought is gripping you, is often when the lesson finally clicks. Talk it Through is built precisely for that kind of work.
The two modes aren't separate apps - they're two stances inside the same conversation. You can switch between them at any time, and everything you've shared comes with you.
You arrive not knowing what you need. The Guide listens across six dimensions, synthesises what it hears, and assembles a pathway. You leave with a structured next step - 2-4 modules to actually work through.
You arrive with something specific - a sticky thought, a hard moment, a lesson you're trying to land. The Guide draws from the technique library, in the right phase, and helps you do the work right then and there.
In practice, most people use both: Explore & Discover sets up your pathway, then Talk it Through becomes the place you process what's happening as you work through the modules. New thing comes up? Re-enter Explore mode and refine the pathway. Stuck on a specific lesson? Switch to Talk it Through and work it out loud. Same Guide, same memory of you, two stances.
A multi-tiered safety protocol runs in every conversation - in both modes, in every phase. It is designed to recognise when distress has gone beyond what a self-care tool can support, and to respond with care rather than silence.
If you express thoughts of self-harm or suicidal ideation, the Guide will pause the conversation, respond with warmth and directness, and connect you to professional crisis resources for your region. It distinguishes passive distress ("I wish I could disappear") from active crisis - responding proportionally, with clarification first and escalation when warranted. It will always prioritise getting you to a real human who can help.
And the boundary holds across both modes. Talk it Through doesn't try to "process" suicidal ideation. Explore & Discover doesn't try to "match a module" to it. Both will pause, surface crisis support, and stay with you while you reach for it.
The knowledge inside CBT, DBT, ACT, Psychodynamic and IPT shouldn't be locked behind a six-month waitlist and a $200 session. Anchr Guide is the bridge - until you have professional support, alongside the therapist you already see, or simply for the moments at 2am when no one else is awake.
Anchr is a self-care tool and does not provide medical or psychological advice. Anchr Guide does not diagnose conditions, prescribe treatment, or replace professional mental health care. If you are in crisis or require professional support, please reach out to a qualified mental health professional or contact a crisis helpline.
